At Southern Hills, church would no longer be church without our invaluable Support Staff.
We no have dozens of people led by Pastor Jason in our Choir and Praise Team who lead our church in worship every week. These folks sacrificially arrive early and stay for each of our services to use their gifts for the ministry of worship. They not only perform for those who come but lead each of us to the throne of God to offer our sacrifice of praise. In our larger auditorium this would not be possible without our faithful sound technicians who do a fantastic job making sure things run smoothly throughout the service.
Wow! Could you imagine coming to church and hearing 12 infants crying and watching 12 toddlers toddling in the midst of the worship service? I love babies, we had 3 of them, but no one would ever be able to pay attention. Yet amazingly, week after week, new mothers and fathers are able to sit in church unencumbered by their little bundle and fully able to hear the gospel of Christ because of the faithfulness of the ladies of the nursery! I believe that dirty diapers, baby bottles, and crowns in heaven have much in common.
Ushers & Parking Ministry
These positions have become even more important since our space has become so very limited! I have noticed how our ushers have really stepped it up over the past few months! They are on the ball finding people seats and making people feel comfortable and at ease in the auditorium. They take their handling of the offerings very seriously, as I have noticed, under the leadership of Ken Savage, Jarrod Patton & Jim Powell. Our parking lot has become virtually nonexistent as people are parking up and down the surrounding streets and into the desert lots across the way. Mike McConnell has led an elite group of men who have tackled this challenge with strength, determination and friendliness.
We have been called a very friendly church! Truly, if you walk into one of our sunday morning services there will be several greeters at the door who will hand you a church program and reach out to shake your hand with a smile. Upon entering the lobby you will notice a line of church hosts just waiting to assist a new family in finding their way around our beautiful facility. A facility that would only remain beautiful because of the faithfulness of those in the cleaning ministry.
It is true that no man is an island and when we think of the great church that is Southern Hills, let us remember those who make this church truly great: pastor’s staff, the deacons, the lay-leadership, and the support-staff. Without this Team – I would never be able to do what God has called me to do!
