The Renewing of the Mind

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:2

The world system in which we live is by nature perpetually opposed to everything that is of God. This system is ultimately controlled by the god of this world, Satan. The world that is opposed to God and the things of God is always trying to influence the way you think. It attempts to influence your mind through media, temptation, and peer pressure. If the world and its philosophy can influence the way you think, then it can influence the way you act. Therefore, if Satan can get you to begin to think like the world in which we live that is opposed to God, then Satan can get you to act in such a way that is opposed to God. This is why Paul challenges us to refuse to be forced into the mold of the world.

Paul offers an alternative. He tells us that we do not have to just fall in line and be like the world in which we live. In fact, he tells us that we can break the mold and become something brand new. He gives those who are saved hope in that we don’t have to be “conformed,” but we can be “transformed.” This transformation comes through the renewing of the mind. There are many things that can be said about the renewing of the mind and how it can happen. But, I am convinced that there is no greater tool that can be used by the Christian in the renewing of the mind than the Bible. When we allow our thoughts to be influenced by the Bible instead of being influenced by the world, then we can truly know what it means to not be conformed, but to be transformed.

This transformation that takes place through the renewing of our minds enables us to begin to discern and experience the will of God. A Christian who is thinking and acting like the world has the very serious potential of missing out on God’s best for their life. However, the Christian that is thinking and living according to God’s Word has put themselves in a good spot to be able to experience fullness of joy and contentment by living and abiding in God’s best for their life, His perfect will.

Will you make the decision today to allow God to renew your mind? What is keeping your mind from being transformed? Choose right now to meditate on God’s Word and His perfect will for your life.
